    In most oryoki traditions this chant is preceeded by Tenpatsu-no-ge. Refer to the appendix for this chant. It will of course be noticed that eleven items are listed in the chant rather than ten. Although the book was written for the Shambhala community and their practice of Oryoki, the book could be used by any Buddhist wanting to make meals into meditation practice. The liturgy starts with the Sutra of The Recollection of the Noble Three Jewels which is used in one form or another in all schools of Buddhism.

Oryoki Instructions The instructions that follow cover only the the basic steps required to serve an oryoki meal. Many of the forms used during meal serving are not discussed, since they will vary with the physical circumstances, number of people.
